International buyers spurred Miami-area home sales to a new record in 2011, even exceeding sales volume during the height of the real estate boom in 2005, according to figures released Friday.

Fueled by foreign buyers and distressed sales, pending home sales in Southwest Florida rose as much as 40% compared to last year.
In July, pending home sales in Miami-Dade County stood at 10,113, up 40.5 percent from July of 2009, according to figures released Tuesday by the Miami Realtors.
