Bird Key, Sarasota
Bird Key, which lies between the mainland and Lido Key, is one of the most historically rich areas in Sarasota. Linked directly to downtown Sarasota by The Ringling Bridge to the east of the key, and to St. Armands Key via the extension to the west. Notable residents of Bird Key include Jerry Springer and Brian Johnson, the lead man of the famous Rock Band, AC/DC.
Half of all homes in this popular boating community are located on Sarasota Bay or on one of the Key’s deep water canals. You’ll find luxurious gated waterfront estates with private docks on this Key. It is truly a boater’s paradise and is home to the private Bird Key Yacht Club. The Club offers amenities such as swimming, tennis and docking.
St. Armands Circle officers luxury shopping and dinning opportunities and is home many restaurants and bars. If you would like to spend time at the beach, Lido Key and it’s beautiful sand beach is located on the west side of St. Armands Circle.

Bird Key History
In 1911, Lindsay Worcester of Cincinnati fell in love with the natural beauty, beaches, birds and palm trees on Bird Key. Her husband, Thomas Worcester, purchased Bird Key from the state to build a beautiful modern home. Their mansion took three years and cost over $100,000 to complete. Thomas sold it to John Ringling in the early 1920′s. Ringling built the Ringling Causeway from the mainland for easy access to Bird Key, St. Armands Circle and Lido Key. In 1936 John Ringling passed away and bequeathed the island to his sister Ida, who lived in his home until 1950. The island was enlarged, the home was removed and the Bird Key Yacht Club today is on the site of the first home on Bird Key.
